Police Recover Baby Left In Car During Vehicle Theft

Posted: Updated:

NASHVILLE, Tenn. - Police said a baby has been recovered after being kidnapped during a vehicle burglary on McGavock Pike Monday afternoon.

Police said a woman stopped at the BP gas station on McGavock Pike to fill up her car. The woman left her infant child inside the vehicle while she went into the store to pay for gas.

In the brief time she was gone, her car was stolen with her infant child in the back seat.

The mother immediately called 911 emergency dispatch. Officers with the Metro Nashville Police Department quickly canvassed the area to look for the vehicle.

The car was found abandoned half an hour later on Murfreesboro Road.

Officials said the baby was found safe inside the vehicle. Police have several leads on the suspect who stole the car, but have not released any other details.

No arrests have been made.

Police said the child's mother was being investigated by the Department of Child's Services. They had not yet determined if the woman would face charges for leaving her baby unattended in the vehicle.

The vehicle was being processed as investigators looked for evidence that could lead them to the suspect.

Anyone with information should call Crime Stoppers at 74-CRIME (615-742-7463).
