Dozens Brave Weather For Annual Polar Bear Plunge

Posted: Updated:

NASHVILLE, Tenn.- Some adventurous Nashville residents celebrated the New Year with a cold dip in the lake as part of the YMCA's annual Polar Bear Plunge.

Dozens of brave men, women and children lined up to kick of 2013 with a swim in the chilly waters of Percy Priest Lake on Tuesday. The Polar Bear Plunge has become an annual tradition at the Joe C. Davis YMCA Outdoor Center. The event is also a fundraiser for the Y.

Regardless of the weather, swimmers said it's something they wouldn't miss.

"It's something we do every year as a family. It's a spiritual renewal," said swimmer Karen Robishaud.

T-shirts sold at the event help send deserving kids to Camp Widjiwagan this coming summer.
