Four Arrested After 10-Year-Old Put Into Closet During Home Invasion

Posted: Updated:

NASHVILLE, Tenn. - Three teens and an adult have been arrested in connection with a home invasion in which a 10-year-old was forced into a closet.

Police said three men broke into a home on Ryan Allen Circle around 10 a.m. When a 10-year-old boy answered the door, two of whom were masked, forced their way in. According to police, one of the suspects pulled a pistol on the child, put a hand over his mouth and forced him into a closet.

During the robbery, the child's mother and his four younger siblings were upstairs in the house. The mother told police that the bathtub was running and she didn't hear the commotion downstairs.

Officials said the suspects later admitted that they had robbed the wrong house, but took an iPod and tried to take a television before quickly fleeing.

Police said when the 10-year-old heard them leave, he left the closet and told his mother what had happened. A neighbor watched the suspects flee from the home and was able to give police a good description of their vehicle.

The suspects who broke into the house were stopped on Creekwood Drive about half an hour after the robbery. Police charged 18-year-old Shannon Birdsong, 20-year-old Lorenzo Vaughn, 17-year-old Michael Kelly and 15-year-old DeAngelo Spears with aggravated robbery.

When police searched the suspect's car they found a nine millimeter semi-automatic pistol with an extended magazine loaded with 16 rounds, gloves, a stocking mask, bandanas and the iPod taken from the home.

Birdsong and Vaughn were held in lieu of $150,000 bond each.  Kelly and Spears were held in juvenile detention.
