NASHVILLE, Tenn. - Conde Nast Traveler magazine named Nashville one of five cities worldwide to see in 2013.

Music City is on the list along with Amsterdam, Seoul, Toronto and New Orleans.

"That's impressive. That's very impressive. I'm not surprised, I mean it's like a world-class city," said Karen Isaacson who was visiting Nashville from Chicago.

The magazine noted Nashville's eclectic music scene and the city's evolving food scene as reasons for making the list.

"You aspire to be included on a global stage and in a positive light," said Butch Spyridon, President of the Nashville Convention and Visitors Bureau.

He said it has taken a lot of work to turn Nashville into destination it has become. But there is still plenty of work to do in the years to come.

"You know you can't take it for granted. you got to work harder and make sure you deserve to be in that company," said Spyridon.

Spyridon said one reason Nashville has become so popular is because the city and its attractions have stayed authentic to what made the area famous years ago.

"So we haven't lost our way trying to be New York or San Francisco, because as soon as we do that, we're dead. We need to be Nashville," Spyridon said.

Nashville's transformation into a worldwide tourist destination began in the late 1990's.

"It kind of started, maybe unofficially, when the theme park closed and we said we need to become a year round destination," according to Spyridon.

He said the investment in downtown Nashville and the spring opening of the Music City Center will really take Nashville to the next level as a tourist destination.

"So really '13, as good as it's going to be is setting the stage for '14," Spyridon said.

The new convention center opens in the Spring. The Omni Hotel and expanded Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum will open towards the end of the year.
