James Fulmer
NASHVILLE, Tenn. – A homeless man was found dead on the steps of a church in east Nashville Thursday morning.
Police said another homeless man called police just before 8 a.m. to report that 50-year-old James G. Fulmer had died during the night. Fulmer had been sleeping on a small covered porch near a side entrance of Crystal Fountain Church on Russell Street near South 10th Street.
Wilford Gold used a payphone to call for help.
"I just met him last night. I bought him a blanket last night cause that's what the good Lord says to do, you know," said Wilford Gold.
Police believe the man in his 50s likely died of hypothermia. There was no evidence of trauma or foul play. A medical examiner will perform an autopsy to determine cause of death and whether exposure to the cold was a factor.
The National Weather Service said the overnight low temperature in Nashville was 25 degrees.
