SPRINGFIELD, Tenn. – Authorities in Robertson County are trying to solve a bizarre shooting incident where the victim was found dead behind the wheel of a car, miles away from where he was shot.
It started around 11:30 a.m. Thursday at the Corner Market at 5th Avenue West and Kinney's Road. A witness told police that 32-year-old Brian Dale Castelow approached him and asked for a light for a cigarette. He then told him that he had been shot, and the witness saw blood on Castelow.
The witness asked him if he was going to the hospital, and that's when Castelow got into a white Dodge pickup truck and drove away.
Six minutes later, a crash was reported on Kinney's Road between a truck and a tractor trailer. A Robertson County Sheriff's deputy found Castelow deceased inside his truck, with a possible gunshot wound to the back of his head.
Police believe Castelow was involved in a shooting that was reported earlier in the day near 20th and Blair Street in Springfield. Multiple shots were fired at the location, and no one reported it to police.
No one has been arrested.
The Tennessee Highway Patrol is investigating the traffic crash. The Springfield Police Department is investigating the shooting.
