SPRING HILL, Tenn. -- This weekend, hundreds of friends, family and former students
paid tribute to the man who helped make music at Spring Hill High school for
more than two decades.
The school's band director, Daryl Jack, died of health complications on New
Year's Day, and Saturday, hundreds packed the high school gymnasium to attend
Daryl Jack's funeral.
Daryl Jack had been the band director at Spring Hill since 1989. He
was 57.
The memorial included performances from band members past and present, and
one performance was conducted by one of the school's current drum majors.
"He taught me a lot of what I needed to know, to know how to
conduct," said Cynthia Taylor, a Spring Hill High School band drum
major. "He helped me get to where I am as a drum major, and he knew
it meant a lot for me to conduct concert music, so I was doing it for
him, the whole time."
Cynthia wasn't the only person to lead a musical piece at this weekend's
service. Former drum majors and even music education majors came back to
help.
