NASHVILLE, Tenn.- Star
Vanderbilt Receiver Jordan Matthews held a press conference Sunday to announce
he's coming back to school for his senior year.
Matthews is turning down
the chance to enter into the NFL Draft for the opportunity to win an SEC
Championship.
He was projected as a
second round pick, but Matthews will again be the Commodores' top option.
"Those guys have a vision
just like Coach Franklin does; they have the same vision that I do. And if we didn't
all share that vision, I could honestly tell you, I would not be coming back," said
Matthews. "But I know for a fact, I've got the guys around me that can take
this school to an SEC Championship next year. That's the main reason why I'm
staying."
"I don't think there's any
question that he's ready to go to the next level, but he wants to continue his
opportunity here, refine his craft; have an opportunity to earn his degree, and
then take his talents to the next level," said Coach Franklin.
Matthews set a Vanderbilt record with 1323
yards receiving on 94 catches this year.
