NASHVILLE, Tenn. - A local non-profit is trying to help get rid of a problem you may not even know is in your home, especially if you live in an older home.

The group "Rebuilding Together Nashville" is trying to get the word about free lead paint testing and removal for homeowners who qualify.

The group got a state grant to help pay for the program, and they have enough money to fix up about 50 homes, but so far they've only helped about 20 residents.

"I think people just don't trust, they don't believe they'll be getting a free service," said Fabian Bedne with Rebuilding Together Nashville. "Many times when I call them, they'll say, 'Is this really for free?' and I have to have to explain many times it's a free program."

Lead paint can put young kichildren at risk for learning and behavior problems, slowed growth and even a lower IQ.
