Youth Pastor Charged With Statutory Rape, Sexual Battery

SHELBYVILLE, Tenn. – A youth pastor in Bedford County has been arrested on statutory rape and sexual battery charges.

Police said 36-year-old Joseph Neill had inappropriate contact with a 17-year-old girl, who was a member of his youth group at Northfork Baptist Church.

The Shelbyville Times-Gazette quoted Detective Sgt. Brian Crews of the Shelbyville Police Department as saying she was the only victim. Sgt. Crews told the paper the girl's parents became suspicious about her closeness with Neill, confronted her and contacted police last week.

The case remained under investigation.
