NASHVILLE, Tenn. - Alabama and Notre Dame fans filled Nashville area sports bars to watch their teams play in the BCS Championship game.

Both schools have strong local alumni association chapters, and the groups helped coordinate the events.

Notre Dame fans met at McNamara's Irish Pub in Nashville, where they showed up wearing plenty of green and gold, and had high hopes for their team.

"I have spent the last 12 years living in Alabama," said Notre Dame fan Steven Scrimpf. "There is nothing I would rather see than Alabama lose."

"I think we should have had the national championship in 1993, but voters didn't go that way," said Notre Dame fan Pete Weber, play-by-play voice of the Nashville Predators. "This could be our year."

Across town, Crimson Tide fans rolled into Jed's Sports Bar. There were plenty of chants of "Roll Tide" and fans decked out in Crimson and White.

"It is really exciting to be in Tennessee which is UT country and be able to celebrate the Tide," said Alabama fan Maggie Millette.

"It's nothing like being at the game, but this is the next best option," said Alabama fan Jordan Leach.

Fans of both schools agreed the match up between two of the most storied programs in college football was one for the record books.

"It's exciting for everyone," said Millette. "Even people who aren't Notre Dame or Bama fans. It is just good football."
