New TSU President Issues Challenge To Alumni

Posted: Updated:

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Tennessee State University is under new leadership. The new president made a significant donation to the school and challenged alumni to do the same.

She didn't speak much on historical statistics, but focused the future of the university. Last year, 300 students could not return to school because they did not have the money to cover tuition.

Dr. Glenda Blaskin Glover said she was going to roll up her sleeves and get things moving to make TSU a greater university. She did just that within the first minutes in front of faculty and staff.

"To demonstrate my commitment to TSU as an administrator and as president of this institution, I am today making a contribution to Tennessee State in the amount of $50,000," said Glover.

One of Dr. Glover's five goals included fundraising and she put $50,000 of her own money up to start the Glenda Baskin Glover Presidential Endowed Scholarship.

She said the goals during her administration will focus on academic progress and customer service; fundraising and partnerships; diversity and inclusion; shared governance as well as business and outreach.

"We want to make sure we are the university of first response of sort, so that when a need arises they pick up the phone and contact Tennessee State, because we are going to be there to be the think tank to produce the quality of students that are employment ready for them," said Glover.

Dr. Glover challenged each TSU alumni chapter across the world to match her $50,000 donation.
