MT. JULIET, Tenn. – A house was destroyed by fire in Mt. Juliet on Tuesday morning.

The home was engulfed in flames when firefighters got on the scene before 9 a.m. Tuesday at a home on Cardiff Lane in the Chandler Pointe subdivision.

A friend of the adult daughter came over to the home and smelled smoke. The daughter woke up her mother, and they all escaped the home safely.

The owner of the home is currently enrolled in the fire academy, and rode over to his home with firefighters.

The roof of the home caved in, and the second story was gutted by the blaze. Both neighboring homes also suffered some damage from the fire.

Two dogs and a cat were also saved from the fire, but one cat remained missing.

The cause of the fire was not immediately known.
