ANTIOCH, Tenn. - The new owners of the Hickory Hollow Mall announced Tuesday night the new name the property will be known as from this point forward.

A sign on a glass elevator in the center court revealed that new name; Global Mall at The Crossings.

The Crossings is the name local business owners want to use to re brand the Hickory Hollow area.

A large group of community members gathered for the unveiling of the mall's new name.

The change is the owner's first step towards turning around the dead mall that currently has five retails stores; Electronic Express, Champs, Foot Locker, City Gear and Finish Line.

"Getting a fresh start is so important right now. Trying to overcome the bad imagery that has been displayed in the area. This mall is a pinnacle point in this community for years," said Quincy McKnight, Global Mall's marketing director.

The mall has 188 store fronts. The mall's marketing team is currently working to recruit national and international companies with names the public is familiar with.

"We want this to be Tennessee's only international mall, a true international mall. Right now our food court is completely leased out. So we've got that part done, so now we're working on all our retail space right now," McKnight explained.

Nashville State Community College operates a satellite campus in the former Dillard's department store.  Metro Nashville is in the process of converting the former J.C. Penny department store in a new library and community center. That project should be completed in the Spring of 2014.

Community members are anxious to see the other changes planned for the mall.

"I'm getting older, and I don't want to wait ten years, I want to see the changes," said Faith Forester. She owns a diamond store not far from the mall.

The business owner said the biggest change she wants to see is the new image for the area.

"I don't think it was ever as bad as what people thought it was. And by living in this area and knowing, and having a business in the area, we have more of an insight," Forester said.

The mall's manager said he hopes to announce in March some of the new businesses that plan on opening this spring.

The Global Mall at The Crossings is scheduled to have its grand opening on April 1st.
