NASHVILLE, Tenn. – A woman was hospitalized after being struck by a car while checking the damage on her own car on Interstate 40 in the Hermitage area overnight.
Around 3 a.m., police said the female driver fell asleep behind the wheel while driving in the eastbound lanes near exit 221, and hit a retaining wall.
When she got out to check the damage on her car, police said another car struck her, and threw her into the center lane.
She was taken to Vanderbilt University Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries. Her identity was not immediately released.
Police said no charges were expected to be filed.
Debris from the crash, including the victim's shoes, had to be cleared from the interstate, so police closed three lanes for about two hours. The interstate has since reopened.
