Music City Center Books Rooms Through 2026

Posted: Updated:

NASHVILLE, Tenn. - There are still several months before the Music City Center opens its doors but the venue already has more than 800,000 rooms booked.

On Thursday, the Nashville Convention and Visitor's Bureau announced the new numbers. The NCVB set an internal goal of booking one million room nights for the center, prior to its opening later this spring. Officials said the total number of room nights booked so far comes from 102 individual meetings.

The Music City Center is the largest public building project in state history is becoming a reality. When the building is complete it will be three times the size of the already existing Nashville Convention Center.

"Its 350,000 square feet, or eight acres," said Holly McCall from Music City Center. "You could line up four 747's nose to tail. One tail might hang off a little,"

Kay Witt heads the Nashville Convention and Visitor's Bureau team that sells Music City Center. She said interest from meeting planners has definitely piqued.

"We used to do, probably, two or three site visits a month. We do two or three site visits a week. So we have two that are in town right now looking," said Witt. "We're getting closer to our million mark. We'd like to accomplish that by the time the Omni opens in October of 2013," Witt said.

So far, more than 829,000 room nights have been booked for 102 conventions through 2026 and every group imaginable will visit Nashville: the National Funeral Directors Association, the International Reading Association, Global Awakening, the National Science Teachers Association, even the Hearth, Patio and Barbecue Association.

"I think the exciting part now is actually being able to see how it's turning out," said Witt.

Workers are putting on the finishing touched to the building and working 12 hour shifts to complete the project by April 30.

"I don't think there's any other convention center in the country that comes close to looking like this," Witt added.

A grand opening for the building will be held in May. The first major event to take place in Music City Center will be the CMA Music Festival. The popular Fan Fair autograph session will move into the space this year.
