Anti-Income Tax Crusader Gill Ends Radio Show

Posted: Updated:

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) -- Steve Gill, a vocal opponent of efforts to create a state income tax and a two-time Republican congressional nominee, is giving up his radio show.

Gill said Friday that he will conclude his show this month after 15 years on the air. He said he initially expected to only be on the air for two or three years.

Gill and other talk radio hosts played a large role in organizing opposition to efforts to create a state income tax more than a decade ago.

He said the growth of national broadcasters like Clear Channel and Cumulus has squeezed out opportunities for regional and local talk radio hosts.

Gill narrowly lost his 1994 challenge to former Rep. Bart Gordon, and lost to the Democrat again two years later.
