Church Roof Caves In During 2-Alarm Fire

Posted: Updated:

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – A powerful 2-alarm fire ripped through a Nashville church, destroying the building.

The fire started just after 1 p.m. Sunday at the Bell Road Church of the Nazarene on 414 Bell Road.

Witnesses called 911 emergency dispatchers after seeing smoke coming from the steeple.

Officials with the Nashville Fire Department said the fire spread especially quickly because of the open space in the building.

The flames caused major damage to the structure and the roof caved in.

Crews battled wet weather as they worked to control the flames.

Jeff Sexton, part of the church leadership, said the fire will provide an opportunity for church members to rise up from adversity.

No one was injured in the fire.

The cause of the fire was under investigation.

Firefighters were able to salvage the large cross from the church.
