Ice Storm Warning Issued For Middle Tennessee

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – An ice storm warning has been issued for Middle Tennessee until Wednesday morning.

An ice storm warning has been issued for Benton, Cheatham, Davidson, Dickson, Hickman, Houston, Humphreys, Lewis, Montgomery, Perry, Robertson, Sumner, Williamson and Wayne counties until 8 a.m. Wednesday.

Carroll, Decatur, Hardin and Henderson Counties remain under an ice storm warning until 6 a.m. Wednesday. 

Rain and freezing rain will increase during the afternoon Tuesday and continue overnight as temperatures drop below freezing by nightfall. Ice could accumulate up to half an inch on roads, bridges and overpasses.

A winter weather advisory has been issued for the remainder of the mid-state until 8 a.m. Wednesday.

Road crews have been working many long hours treating and pre-treating icy roads since early Tuesday morning and they're not stopping anytime soon.

In Middle Tennessee, The Tennessee Department of Transportation has had more than 250 crews working on the roads since Monday. They will continue to pre-treat and treat the roads as needed.

 "We don't want to put brine out, because we're fearful it could wash that brine off," said Mike Brown, TDOT Director of Operations. "So this next wave of weather that's coming through, we'll be treating it with granular salt, and depending on the temperatures we may need to wet that with calcium chloride."

Drivers should be prepared for some slippery roads and limited visibilities, and are urged to use caution.

All Sumner County Schools after-school programs and evening activities were canceled for as a result of the weather. 

Austin Peay State University and all of its campuses will close immediately for the rest of the day, due to the impending weather. All evening activities have been canceled as well.

In Montgomery County, they will close all county offices at 3 p.m. for the safety of our employees. The county will open their Emergency Operation Center at 5 p.m. because of the potential icy weather.

Due to weather concerns the Williamson County Parks and Recreation Department has decided to close the Fairview Recreation Complex at 3:30 p.m. and all other facilities at 4:30 p.m. The Therapeutics Bowling class was also canceled. 

Fifth Third Bank in Tennessee also announced they would be closing their offices at 3 p.m. due to weather. 

All Metro Public Health Department after hour clinics will be closed Tuesday night due to predicted winter weather. All Health Department clinics will remain open during regular business hours Tuesday and Wednesday.
