TBI Investigates Fatal Officer-Involved Shooting

ASHLAND CITY, Tenn. - The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation was called out to investigate a fatal shooting involving a Cheatham County Sheriff Deputy.

Authorities said witnesses saw two people kick in the door at L&P body shop on Vine Street in Ashland City around 9 p.m. Monday. Officers said from Ashland City, Cheatham County and THP responded. Two officers entered the building, and came face-to-face with a man carrying a knife. 

One of the officers opened fire, striking one of the men. The other was taken into custody.

The man who was shot was taken to Centennial Medical Center in Ashland City, where died. He was identified as 24-year-old Keith Tyson, of Ashland City,

The other man, identified as 46-year-old Clinton Howell, was taken into custody at the scene, and charged with burglary.

The name of the officer who opened fire was not immediately released. 

The TBI is assisting in this investigation, which is standard protocol for all officer-involved shootings. Their investigation is ongoing, and their findings will be turned over to the District Attorney General for review.
