FAIRVIEW, Tenn. – A driver was killed in a single-vehicle crash on State Route 840 in Fairview early Wednesday morning.
A report from the Tennessee Highway Patrol said they believe the crash happened around 5:30 a.m. Wednesday in the eastbound lanes at Pewitt Road.
A Tennessee Department of Transportation employee had been checking the bridge for ice and sleet around 7:30 a.m. when he saw tire marks that left the roadway. He then discovered the vehicle crashed off the embankment.
The report said the 63-year-old Richard Deslauriers lost control coming off the bridge, and the vehicle dropped 85 feet before coming to a rest under the westbound bridge.
Deslauriers was partially ejected and died at the scene. The report said he was not wearing a seatbelt.
The roadway was shut down while the crash was investigated.
