Man Critically Injured After Car Flips Off Exit Ramp

Posted: Updated:

FRANKLIN, Tenn. – A man was critically injured after his vehicle flipped off an exit ramp in Franklin on Thursday night.

Police said 45-year-old Ariac Doanes, of Smyrna, was exiting onto Cool Springs Boulevard from Interstate 65 north around 9:30 p.m. when he lost control of his vehicle. It left the roadway, overturned, and landed on its hood in the eastbound lanes of Cool Springs Boulevard.

Doanes had to be extricated from the vehicle by firefighters. He was taken by LifeFlight to Vanderbilt University Medical Center where he remains in critical condition.

Police believe speed was a factor in the crash.

This is the second crash this month in the same spot. Police said a man died after exiting the ramp and flipping his car. Speed played a factor in that crash as well.

Police said slowing down could have prevented both of the crashes.

"One of the common denominators in these crashes is speed. The faster, the more severe. These ramps are not designed for interstate speeds. So when you exit use more caution because they're coming into a much slower speed zone," said Lt. Charles Warner with the Franklin Police Department.

The Franklin Police Department's Critical Incident Response Team, comprised of traffic reconstructionists, is investigating.
