Nashville's NewsChannel 5 Network, one of the nation's best news operations, has a unique position. We are looking for a meteorologist/traffic reporter. You will be a critical part of our #1 morning team. The ideal candidate has the technical skills for accurate forecasting and producing up to the minute traffic reports, in addition to having the personality to present both in a clear and conversational manner. You will be using the best WSI weather and traffic technology available, and will have a high-profile role on one of the highest rated morning newscasts in the country.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Analyze weather data and make forecasts.
- Monitor INRIX data for traffic incidents and present morning traffic reports.
- Produce and deliver weather and traffic casts for broadcast, digital, web and mobile.
- Monitor severe weather situations and, as required, broadcast live updates.
- Prepare graphics for traffic and weathercasts.
- Communicate with news management regarding hazardous weather or traffic conditions.
- Make public appearances at schools, civic groups, and community events.
- Ability to meet daily deadlines and deal with high pressure situations.
- Assist with transporting equipment, such as cameras, tripods, etc., as necessary.
KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:
- Minimum two (2) years experience as a television meteorologist, experience as a television traffic
- reporter a bonus.
- Strong on-air communication skills.
- Able to tell a compelling and easy to understand weather and traffic story.
- Ability to work in a high pressure environment.
- Work well with news and production staffs.
- Flexibility to work as needed within station hours of operation, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week,
- including holidays.
- Ability to present on-air for extended periods of time, particularly in breaking news or weather
- situations.
- Possess a valid driver's license.
- Ability to work in a team-based environment.
- Professional appearance and behavior.
- College degree.
KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES PREFERRED:
- Proficiency in storm-tracking technology.
- Degree in Meteorology and AMS/NWA seals.
- Experience with WSI's TruVu Max Storm and Traffic a plus.
