Officials Wrap Up Investigation Of Deadly Humphreys Co. Fires

Posted: Updated:

HUMPHREYS COUNTY, Tenn.- The Humphreys County Sheriff's Office said they have completed their investigation of two house fires that killed three people this week.

Police, along with the Bomb and Arson squad, said the investigation wrapped up Friday afternoon. All of the information has now been turned over to the medical examiner and state crime lab.

The autopsies, although not complete, have revealed some preliminary information that has helped us make progress in this case," said Sheriff Chris Davis "When you have such a devastating scene as this it just time, however we are making progress every day,"

On Wednesday, officials in Humphreys County were called to two house fires on White Oak Creek Road, near Steed Road in Waverly.

State Fire Marshal's Office spokesman Christopher Garrett said both homes belonged to Carl and Elaine Hewitt. Three bodies were found in one of the houses. Investigators have not ruled out foul play as the cause of the fires.
