MCMINNVILLE, Tenn.- Two brothers are happy to be on dry land after teetering at the edge of a dam for hours.
Gary Cherry and his brother Greg Cherry from McMinnville were out fishing Sunday afternoon around 1:30 p.m. when the motor on their fishing boat died. The current in the water was so strong that it swept the boat to the edge of the Barren Fork River Dam. Luckily, someone on land saw them and called for help.
The temperature of the water is about 48 degrees, so there was a concern for hypothermia among other things, if the men were to fall into the water.
Part of the boat was lodged, so the boat did not go over the edge until a rescue squad was able to get ropes to the men and pull them to safety. When the brothers were rescued, their fishing boat did go over the brink.
No one was injured.
