NASHVILLE, Tenn. – An undercover drug bust did not go as planned, and police arrested a man for selling fake drugs.
Undercover officers set up a drug transaction with 34-year-old Wade D. Cosby to buy a bag of crack for $40 on Monday, according to an affidavit. The moment they paid him the money, other police nearby moved in to make the arrest.
At that point, the suspect told them the bag only held worthless white rocks, and not crack cocaine. He told them he was selling the bogus bag of drugs to help pay for his newborn child.
Field testing of the rocks came back negative for cocaine.
Cosby was still charged with selling a counterfeit controlled substance, which is a felony. His bond was set at $20,000.
