CADIZ, Ky. (AP) - A coroner said the driver in a crash that killed four people in western Kentucky, including three teenagers, was intoxicated.
Trigg County Coroner John Mark Vinson told the Kentucky New Era that toxicology reports indicate 30-year-old David Shoaf had trace amounts of alcohol, valium, marijuana and methamphetamine in his system when the crash occurred on December 8. Vinson said he determined Shoaf was intoxicated based on state law.
Police said Shoaf lost control of the minivan he was driving on the wet roadway and skidded into the tractor. Killed in the crash were Shoaf and three passengers -- 18-year-old Kimberly Shafer, 17 year-old Lindsey Sholar and 19-year-old Dalton McDougall, all of Cadiz. Another passenger, 18-year-old Brendan Breen of Cadiz was injured, but survived.
