Posted: Updated:

FRANKLIN, Tenn.- Franklin Police officers have now been granted the right to bear… bears.

Local attorney Shauna Billingsley Bar Association's Young Lawyers Division and the presented the police department with an assortment of teddy bears the officers will take with them to hand out to children in need.

"Things like car crashes or family fights can be extremely frightening to young children," Billingsley said. "Helping police connect with them during times of trouble is something we felt compelled to help with. Many of us are parents and agreed that helping to make our children more comfortable with our police force is important."

The bears will be handed out to officers during morning roll calls, and will ride along with police until they're needed elsewhere.
