MADISON, Tenn. – Water was shut off overnight to several businesses after a pipe broke in the Madison area.
The water main burst around 9 p.m. Thursday on Gallatin Road near East Palestine Avenue.
Officials said cold weather likely caused the break. Ground saturated by all the rain the area has been getting probably contributed, as well.
Crews with the Madison Suburban Utility District were called out, and worked through the night to repair the leak.
Hundreds of gallons of water were spilling out into the street. The water had to be shut off while crews worked.
Northbound Gallatin Road was reduced to one lane during repairs.
Workers had to work in the water in near-freezing temperatures to repair the pipe.
Repairs were expected to be completed by noon.
