SUMNER COUNTY, Tenn.- On Friday, residents unable to afford the dental care they need were able to find relief.
Since fall 2012 the non-profit Salvus Center has been operating a low cost dental clinic for adults who have jobs but have either no insurance or simply can't pay the high premiums on their own plan. Dr. Bill Taylor is one of 12 dentists donating his time to help those in need.
"The need is tremendous and money's tight. You got a choice between gas in the car to get to work or books for the kids. So many parents just neglect their teeth until it's too far gone," Dr. Taylor explained.
Salvus Center has been offering medical care for those in need for several years, but only recently began the dental plan. Local dentists and assistants volunteer their time to treat those who otherwise wouldn't be able to afford quality dental care.
"It's a great component to the medical care we give and again, our target population is the working uninsured of Sumner County," said local organizer Shelley Ames.
Dental Care at the Salvus Center is available every Friday.
