State Warns Local Businesses Of Scam

Posted: Updated:

NASHVILLE, Tenn.- Tennessee's Secretary of State has issued a warning to businesses about scammers targeting local corporations.

On Friday Tennessee's Secretary of State Tre Hargett said his office has received numerous questions about a notice some businesses have received from a company called Corporate Records Service. Hargett said this company is in no way registered, affiliated, or associated with the Tennessee Secretary of State.

"We can confirm that Corporate Records Service is not a business entity on file with our office," Tennessee Secretary of State Tre Hargett said. "I strongly advise corporations to exercise caution before providing their private and confidential information or credit card information to this or any company that is representing itself in this manner."

Hargett said companies receiving this letter have been asked for a $125 fee from Corporate Records Services. The standard fee to file a corporation annual report in Tennessee is only $20.
