NewsChannel 5 Wins News Excellence At Regional Emmys

NASHVILLE, Tenn. - Saturday was a night to honor the best of broadcast journalism in the Mid-South at the 27th Annual MidSouth Regional Emmy Awards.
NewsChannel 5 once again brought homethemost prestigious award from Saturday night's MidSouth Regional Emmys: the News Excellence Award.
Throughout the evening, award recipients expressed gratitude to their coworkers and leadership at NewsChannel 5.
Some of NewsChannel 5's most talented directors, reporters, and photographers walked away with an Emmy, including Jerry Walker, for excellence in editing; reporter Aundrea Cline-Thomas, Mitzi Gargus for excellence in directing; photojournalists Mike Rose, Dustin Gagne, Angie Dones, Nathan Sharkey and former photojournalist Nathan Thompson.
NewsChannel 5 Investigates won four awards, and the entire NewsChannel 5 team won the top honor of the night: News Excellence.
"I'm honored to accept this award on behalf of everyone at NewsChannel 5," said News Director Sandy Boonstra as she stood on stage with Assistant News Director Michelle Bonnett. "I think everyone in this room would agree that local news is a tough business to be in these days."
"We really are a family," said Bonnett. "I think that's one of the things that makes us special."
The event was held at the Schermerhorn Symphony Center.
