NASHVILLE, Tenn.- It was a legendary night at the Bluebird Cafe in Nashville. Willie Nelson was honored with the first-ever Kris Kristofferson Award from the Nashville Songwriters Association.

Kris is one of the founding members of the Nashville Songwriters Association International. Kris said that Willie Nelson was one of the first people he met when he came to Nashville, and he always looked up to him.

As part of the night's festivities, both Willie and Kris were made honorary Tennessee citizens by Governor Bill Haslam even though both artists grew up in Texas.

Mayor Karl Dean also attended the invitation-only event.
