Man Charged With Burglarizing Ex-Girlfriend's Apartment
CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – A Clarksville man was arrested after he allegedly burglarized his ex-girlfriend's apartment.
The victim called police to report that someone had kicked in her front door at her apartment on Riverwood Place around 7:15 p.m. Saturday. The burglar had apparently stolen a cream colored jewelry box and six gold rings worth approximately $2,000.
Witnesses told police they had seen a man exiting the apartment, and gave officers a detailed description.
An officer spotted a red Pontiac G6 leaving the area without headlights. He stopped the vehicle, and found a man lying down across the backseat that matched the description of the burglar.
The man identified himself as James Smith, and the officer saw a cream-colored jewelry box as well as an open bottle of liquor in the back of the vehicle.
Police took him into custody, and found his identification that showed his real name was Ricky Borders. Police soon learned the victim was his ex-girlfriend, and he had been arrested on domestic assault charges against her. As a condition of his release, Borders was prohibited from possessing or consuming alcohol or committing any offense against the victim.
The six stolen rings were found inside the jewelry box.
Borders was booked on aggravated burglary, criminal impersonation, and two counts of contempt charges. His bond was set at $12,250.
