Man Pleads Guilty To Assaulting Boy In Park Bathroom

Posted: Updated:

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – A man pleaded guilty to attacking a boy inside a public restroom at Centennial Park, just days before his trial was set to begin.

Scobey Sowell pleaded guilty Friday to aggravated sexual battery. As part of the plea, he will serve 15 years in prison at 100 percent.

In May 2008, Sowell was inside the restroom when the then-11-year-old boy entered. He asked the boy for money and then assaulted him. Sowell fled the scene on a bicycle.

The victim told a guardian immediately, and was able to point out Sowell as he left.

Sowell was later arrested. His case was continued for some time while Sowell underwent mental evaluation, and was ultimately set for trial on Monday.
