MT. JULIET, Tenn. – Clean up is underway in Mt. Juliet after an EF-2 tornado touched down early Wednesday morning.
Power has been restored for all residents and no road closures were reported on Thursday, a day after the tornado touched down in the area near Lebanon Road.
The tornado damaged 25 businesses, about 100 homes, and two churches.
The businesses along Lebanon Road, including Publix and the Dollar General will begin cleaning up Thursday.
Damage survey teams confirmed the tornado with up to 115 mile per hour winds started on Glenwood Drive, then moved east-northeast before lifting near Cooks Church Road. Damage was spread across a 4.6 mile path. The heaviest damage happened on Lebanon Road and Mt. Juliet Road where a warehouse and an automotive business were heavily damaged.
Several other businesses suffered moderate damage. There was significant damage to outbuilding, fences and power poles at the Mt. Juliet Ball Park.
Dozens of trees and power lines were blown down, and many homes also suffered minor damage along the path.
A semi truck was also blown onto its side on Lebanon Road near the Hardee's in Mt. Juliet. The driver was sleeping in the cab when it happened.
