Owner: $3,000 Stolen Monkey Died Of Stress

Posted: Updated:

CLARKSVILLE, Tenn.- In Clarksville, a $3,000 monkey that was stolen and later recovered has died.

Family members said that "Gizzy" the Marmoset monkey died earlier this week. In October, Gizzy was stolen from a home on Denny Road in Clarksville. Officials said that someone broke into Douglas Jackson and Amber Bradley's mobile home and took their Marmoset monkey. No other property from the home was stolen during the burglary.

An anonymous tip led officers to Pulaski where officials received a photo of the animal and they spoke to the residents who had the monkey in their possession.

After a harrowing few days, Gizzy was reunited with his family. Sadly, however, he passed away this month. Gizzy's owner Doug Jackson said he believed the stress of the ordeal took a toll on the monkey and caused him to pass away. Gizzy was 10 years old, and marmoset monkeys normally live to be 25.

The official cause of death is still unknown.
