Man Convicted In 2009 East Nashville Shooting Death
NASHVILLE, Tenn.- A Nashville jury has convicted a man for a 2009 shooting death in East Nashville.
On Thursday, a jury convicted David Avinger of first degree felony murder and especially aggravated robbery in the 2009 death of Vincent Perkins.
Avinger, who is paralyzed from the waist down and is confined to a wheelchair, was said to have met Perkins near Howard and Oxford Streets in East Nashville for a marijuana sale transaction. Police said Perkins was robbed while sitting in the back seat and was shot while he tried to leave the car.
Avinger was arrested in January 2010. He will spend at least 51 years in prison before being eligible for parole.
Officials from the District Attorney's office said that Avinger's co-defendant, Antionette Reynolds, still has pending charges.
