NASHVILLE, Tenn. - For millions of fans around the world, he's known as Hikaru Sulu of Star Trek, but Friday night George Takei played the role of narrator for the Nashville Symphony. Takei narrated Shoenberg's "A Survivor from Warsaw." Takei, himself a survivor of American internment camps during World War Two, brought a unique perspective to the tale of a concentration camp survivor.
Friday afternoon, Takei stopped by the NewsChannel 5 studios to talk about the performance. "It's a powerful piece and conducted dynamically by the conductor Giancarlo Guerrero. He brings his energy to it, and Shoenberg brings all his passion, anguish, and torture into what it was like for the Jewish people there.
"A Survivor from Warsaw" plays again Saturday night at 8 p.m.
