MEMPHIS, Tenn. - Police said a 4-year-old boy has been fatally shot in Memphis.

Memphis police spokeswoman Karen Rudolph said officers were called to a home at 1:30 p.m. Monday.

When officers arrived, they found Joshua Johnson had been shot. The boy died at the scene.

Rudolph said a preliminary investigation shows Johnson was playing with the gun when he accidentally shot himself.

"I could hear them running around, play as usual. That's it. Then it got quiet. I thought he went to sleep," neighbor Linda Simmons told CBS affiliate WREG.

Officials said there was another child who lived in the home but was at school when the shooting took place.

A neighbor told reporters three adults and two children lived in the apartment when there the shooting occurred.

Police were still investigating. No further details were immediately available.

The incident came just three days after a 16-year-old died after accidentally shooting his 15-year-old friend in North Memphis. The teen was expected to recover.
