SHELBYVILLE, Tenn. -- A Shelbyville man is among the thousands of people stuck on the Carnival Triumph cruise ship in the middle of the Gulf of Mexico after an engine fire on board.
Brannon Potts is a 22 year old technician on the ship. His father Mark has been communicating with him by text message to see what's going on, but without any power to charge cell phones, even that limited communication is difficult.
Other passengers on board report no air conditioning and no running water, and there are reports of limited bathroom access -- and food.
"It's hard to even think about people sleeping outside, the water and trash and everything that's throughout the ship," said Mark Potts.
Two tugs are towing the cruise ship to Mobile, Alabama -- and at speeds between 5 and 8 miles per hour, it's expected in port tomorrow evening or Thursday morning.
