COFFEE COUNTY, Tenn. – A convicted felon and known gang member wanted in connection with a shooting in Manchester over the weekend has been added to the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation's Top 10 Most Wanted list.
John O'Keefe Varner is wanted for attempted first degree murder. Authorities said he should be considered armed and very dangerous.
Manchester Police said Varner went to a home on Woodland Court on Friday night with a woman, and got into an argument with a man at the home. Witnesses told police that Varner asked the man to come out of the house, and then shot him once in the right hip area. After the man ran away, Varner was said to have kept shooting at him.
The TBI said Varner has an extensive and violent criminal history dating back to 1990 that includes second degree murder, aggravated assault, domestic violence and unlawful possession of a weapon. He is also a confirmed Crip gang member.
He is also known to go by "Jake" or "Kitchen." He may be traveling in a 2004 white Ford F-150 truck with Tennessee tag 706-YDC or a 1989 blue Chevy Caprice with Tennessee tag B69-52F.
