Commodore Baseball Team Plays First Home Game on New Surface
NASHVILLE, Tenn. - Despite the chilly temperatures, it's already baseball season. The Vanderbilt Commodores played their first home game Friday night and with something new at Hawkins Field, including a new surface.
The team opened a three game series with Long Beach State at home and Tim Corbin's Commodores were looking for a big season in 2013.
Vanderbilt is a top-five pre-season pick in many college baseball publications so the expectations are high. The 'Dores returned several players from last year's squad that made a deep run in the SEC tournament.
"We certainly have ability. We have good baseball ability and athletic ability and some good young kids, but it goes beyond that really," said coach Corbin. "There are going to be some ups and downs throughout the year and it's how you survive those."
