Near Riverview Drive, Murfreesboro
MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – One person was killed and another injured in a single-vehicle crash in Rutherford County.
The 2010 Ford Mustang was found wrapped around a tree around 9 p.m. Saturday on Riverview Drive in Murfreesboro.
Officials said the Mustang left the roadway and launched into the tree. The driver and passenger were trapped inside for quite some time before anyone saw the car.
Emergency medical technicians pronounced the driver dead on the scene. He was later identified by police as 24-year-old Xavier C. Bingham, of Knoxville.
The passenger, identified as 19-year old Emmanuel Wallace, of Clarksville, was transported by Lifeflight medical helicopter to Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville in critical but stable condition.
The fatal accident team was on the scene for several hours working to determine the exact cause of the crash.
After the initial investigation, police believed they had a good idea why the vehicle ran off the road.
Murfreesboro Police Department spokesman Kyle Evans said they believed excessive speed was a main factor.
