Gravestones Damaged By Vandals At White Co. Cemetery

SPARTA, Tenn. - Police want to catch the vandals who damaged gravestones in a White County graveyard.

The Sparta Expositor reported about 70 monuments in Cherry Creek Cemetery were either broken, or shoved off their bases on Saturday night.

Some of those tombstones can be repaired, but other markers were made before the 20th century, and will be tough to salvage.

Officials with the White County Sheriff's Department said they have found some evidence at the scene... and are working with the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation.

No arrests have been made.
