Police: Woman Found Dead In Street Was Victim Of Hit & Run

Posted: Updated:

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – A woman whose body was found in the street in east Nashville was the victim of an apparent hit-and-run crash.

Police were called to the 2600 block of Barclay Drive near Brittany Drive around 5:10 a.m. Wednesday after a passerby found 32-year-old Livia Smith lying in the street.

Smith suffered head trauma and had injuries on her knees and hands, but no gunshot or stab wounds. She lived only a block from where she was found.

Investigators said they believed Smith was hit and killed by a vehicle that then left the scene.

The Fatal Reconstruction Team from the Metro Nashville Police Department was called in to investigate.

Officials were also working to put together a timeline of exactly what happened.

Neighbors said there were normally a lot of joggers and walkers in the area. They said the friendly street was normally quiet.

"Everybody just seems to know everybody, you know," said Dorothy Martin who lives next door to where the woman who was killed.

Resident Bobbie Bailor said the tragic incident was an indication that drivers need to slow down. She said they've had problems with speeding before.

"They go fast, back and forth – and they always have," said Bailor.

Smith's friends and family said with so many questions about what happened, it will be hard to get the closure they need.

"I would like to know again what happened and who was involved and get some of these questions answered for the sake of her friends and family," said Smith's friend, Juwon Park.

Investigators said Smith was at an East Nashville bar early Wednesday morning and went home in a cab. They were working to figure out how she ended up in the street.

Anyone with information has been asked to contact Metro Nashville Police Department at (615) 862-8600.
