NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Police arrested a Nashville man on drunken driving charges for the twelfth time after he dropped off a child at school.

Police said 58-year-old Anthony McGowan had pulled out of a shopping center on Dickerson Pike on Tuesday morning when an officer noticed his expired license plate, which records showed expired in May 2012.

Officers pulled him over at Dickerson Pike and Marie Street.

A court affidavit said officers reported he had slurred speech, and smelled like alcohol; he later admitted to having several drinks in the morning. He also told police he had just dropped off a kid at the nearby Baxter Alternative Learning Center, according to the affidavit.

After consenting to field sobriety tests, he told police he was on disability for back pain. He also told police he was taking depression medication and Celebrex, which is a pain medication. The results of his blood work were pending.

Police said his license was revoked for being a habitual offender. The affidavit said he had eight previous DUI convictions since 1989, but also had three other DUI arrests in 1990 that did not show whether or not he had been convicted.

McGowan was taken into custody and charged with DUI- 4th offense or more and being a habitual offender. His bond was set at $70,000.
