Funeral Home Helps Victims of Cemetery Vandalism

Posted: Updated:

SPARTA, Tenn.- This week vandals attacked the Cherry Creek Cemetery in Sparta. Seventy graves were either toppled or destroyed. The damage was well over $50,000.

After NewsChannel5's story about the vandalism aired, a crew from the Oaklawn Funeral Home came in to help reset all the stones. They donated the staff, track hoe, and materials.

About eight more graves still need to be repaired, which they hope to do at a later date. Police say they have a few leads on who did the damage.

Anyone with information that could help authorities is asked to call the White County Sheriff's Department at 931-836-2700.
