NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Firefighters said a fire on a deck spread into the attic, and seriously damaged a home in south Nashville on Wednesday.
The fire was reported around 11:45 a.m. Wednesday at a home on Bryce Road.
Firefighters were initially called out to an outside fire, but when they got on the scene they found out it had spread to the home.
"This wasn't a normal situation. The first engine got here,
and they had to wait probably about 10 minutes before they could get any help because
the rest of the companies weren't coming like they normally would," said
Nashville Fire District Chief Tim Moyers. "So they really took a big hit, but
they did an awesome job getting in there by knocking the fire out. They were
real aggressive before we got here."
A woman who lived inside the home was able to escape safely. She was evaluated at the scene, but was not taken to the hospital.
Officials said approximately 50 percent of the home suffered damage.
The cause of the fire was not immediately known.
