Police: Man Tackled Woman Because He Was In Fear For Puppy's Life
CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – Police said a Clarksville man tackled a female neighbor because he thought she was going to attack his puppy.
It happened at an apartment complex on Tower Drive. The victim said she had asked her neighbor, Benjamin Scherger, not to let his dog do his business on her front steps and in her grass area. She asked him to clean up the mess, but he refused.
She went inside to get a broom to clean up. When she came back out with the broom, police said Scherger ran at her, and tackled her off her porch onto the ground. She suffered minor injuries.
Another neighbor noticed the commotion, and went to help the victim. At that point, police said Scherger began running after the other neighbor and screaming at her.
When police arrived, Scherger told them he assaulted the victim because he was in fear for the life of his puppy when she came outside with a broom. Witnesses said the victim made no verbal threats toward the dog.
